Top Liberal Democrat Euro candidate George Lyon has criticised the SNP Government over plans to introduce compulsory sheep tagging across Scotland.
As a Liberal Democrat led debate on sheep tagging takes place at the Scottish Parliament, Mr Lyon commented:
"Liberal Democrats have consistently opposed the introduction of compulsory sheep tagging in Scotland.
"It was Ross Finnie as Rural Affairs minister who successfully negotiated a derogation for Scotland from implementing double tagging and EID in 2004.
"After two years in power the real question is why Cabinet Secretary Richard Lochhead has failed to secure an exemption for Scottish farmers.
"The SNP should be tagged with one word; failure. Scottish farmers deserve better."
