George Lyon, Liberal Democrat MEP for Scotland, has begun a tour of Scotland to hear the views of farmers and crofters about the current state of play on plans to introduce compulsory electronic tagging of sheep.
Commenting at the outset of the week long tour, Mr Lyon said:
"I want to hear first hand the views of farmers and crofters across Scotland on the current proposals to introduce EID. Even with the few concessions that have been won, doubts remain that it can be practically implemented given the current state of the sheep industry.
"I also want to hear whether they believe another layer of bureaucracy and regulation will lead to a further exodus of sheep from our hills. If farmers and crofters believe the Scottish Government should continue to push for further concessions, I will stand with them in that fight."
