George Lyon, Liberal Democrat MEP for Scotland, will be joined by Paolo De Castro, Chair of European Agriculture Committee, at the Royal Highland Show later this month as he continues to ensure Scottish farming interests are at the heart of EU decision making.
Mr De Castro is an influential voice in the European Parliament and a former Italian Agriculture Minister. His visit will give him a chance to see and hear at first hand the concerns of Scottish farmers.
Mr Lyon has also invited Mr De Castro to speak with Richard Lochhead MSP during his trip so the views of the Scottish Government can be aired.
Commenting, Mr Lyon said:
"I'm delighted that such an influential voice in European Agriculture can attend Scotland's premier agricultural event.
"It is a chance for Paolo to speak to Scottish farmers directly, but also for the Scottish agricultural industry to get their points across to a man at the epicentre of European decision making.
"There are many challenges facing farmers in the coming years and I hope that we can build a good relationship between Scottish Ministers, UK Ministers and Europe so that these challenges are met with a united front."
