1 in 5 of the Scottish population are disabled. That is why it was so important for the EU to make sure that those who are disabled or have reduced mobility are still able to enjoy the transport opportunities that flying provides.
In July 2008 new rights came into full force to help those wishing to fly who are disabled or have a reduced mobility, including those who have a temporary mobility impairment caused by an accident.
These new rights should make it easier for you to fly by providing the appropriate assistance right through your journey. The regulation applies to any commercial air service that departs from, transits through, or arrives at an airport in Europe. It also applies to passengers travelling outside Europe who travel on a European airline.
You can find out more about your rights when flying here
But I want to know if this regulation is working. Are airports and airlines respecting the Regulation and abiding by it? What has been your experience of flying since this regulation came into force?
You can let me know your experiences by e-mailing me at: george@georgelyon.org.uk or writing to me at: 9 Newton Terrace, Glasgow, G3 7PJ.
