People here in Scotland want to support their local farmers and producers by buying Scottish food.
However, customers are often let down by the small print on packaging which reveals that whilst a product may be labelled British or Scottish, the contents are actually sourced from elsewhere in the world. It was simply packaged in the UK.
That is why George Lyon MEP voted in June to put an end to this misleading practice.
Mr Lyon voted for it to be made a requirement for a country of origin label to appear on all meat, dairy, fruit and vegetables and single ingredient products.
This will mean that on a ready meal, the packaging could not say it was 'Scottish' or 'British' unless the ingredients were from here.
The vote now goes to Ministers in Europe who will have their say on whether or not mandatory country of origin labelling will come into force.
You can join the campaign now to call on Ministers in Europe to support farmers, back MEPs and get honesty into our food labelling by signing the petition today.
