The UK Labour Government has dumped seven redundant nuclear submarines at Rosyth Dockyard. Local people have been very tolerant about this because we were promised that it would only be for a short while.
Twenty five years after the first submarine was delivered to the yard nothing has changed.
That's not quite true. Something has changed. One of the submarines developed three holes in the ballast tank last year!
Local MP Willie Rennie has been challenging the London Government to act. He has met the Minister several times, sent numerous demands pleading that they remove the subs and led a debate in Parliament setting out the case for action. So far nothing has been done.
George Lyon MEP has now taken the issue up in Brussels to build pressure on the Government to take action.
The obvious solution is to take the submarines to Plymouth Devonport Dockyard for dismantling and disposal. The Government has repeatedly failed to act to make this happen.
The people of West Fife don't want Rosyth to continue to be Labour's nuclear submarine graveyard for another twenty five years.
