The European Parliament is the only parliament in the world to have more than one meeting place.
Twelve times a year, all 736 MEPs, our staff, documentation and equipment that leave Brussels and travel 250 miles to our second home in Strasbourg. The cost of doing this, both in terms of money and the environment, is far too much - the sums just don't add up.
It costs European taxpayers' around £200 million annually to have two seats of Parliament in operation.
At a time when families across Scotland are having to tighten their belts - to drive less, holiday less and socialise less - can the European Union really afford this expense?
The environmental impact is just as striking. Estimates have shown that moving European parliament operations from Brussels to Strasbourg uses around 19,000 tonnes of CO2 every year.
That cannot be right, especially given the EU's commitment to cutting CO2 emissions by 30% by the middle of the century.
The EU must lead by example. George Lyon MEP is campaigning for there to be only one seat of the European Parliament - in Brussels.
Commenting, George said:
"I am pleased that the new UK coalition government has committed to press for the European Parliament to have only one seat in Brussels.
"The cost of uprooting Parliament each month cannot be justified in today's world. If the EU is to lead by example on financial responsibility and on the environment then the travelling circus must end.
"If you agree that alternatives to burning holes in taxpayers' pockets, as well as holes in the atmosphere, must be found then I hope you will support my campaign by signing the petition below."
